Temperature percentiles

These percentile maps show temperature as it has been ranked against the historical record (ranking based on monthly averages). For example, the 10th percentile maps mark off the lowest 10% of temperature records. This means that 10% of the records are lower than the 10th percentile temperature values shown on the maps. Similarly the 90th percentile marks off the highest 10% of temperature records. Therefore 10% of records are greater than the 90th percentile temperature values shown on the maps.
